Educating minds. Empowering women. Transforming generations.

I'm Preshna Chettri — PhD scholar, educator, and columnist from the Darjeeling hills. In May 2026 I carried my research to the world stage, presenting "Empowering Women through Education: A Path to Equality and Growth" at the 12th World Conference on Women's Studies.

About me

From the hills of Sittong to the world stage

I grew up in Sittong, in the Darjeeling hills, in a humble family where higher education was a distant dream. I became the first in my family — and the first from my village — to pursue higher education, and today the first to pursue a doctorate.

That journey shaped everything I do. After my GNM, B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Nursing, I added a Master's in Psychology to understand the minds behind the patients, and spent four years teaching the next generation. I'm now a full-time PhD scholar at Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (SRIHER), Chennai, pursuing an MBA alongside.

Because education changed my life, I research it, speak about it internationally, and write about it — every fortnight — in Himalaya Darpan, India's first Nepali daily.

"When a woman is educated, she does not just change her own life — she changes the future of generations to come." — From my column in Himalaya Darpan
